Old Redbird Guitar and Custom Satellite Amplifier set SOLD
My good friend Sam over at Cardinal Instruments and I have had a number of conversations that all lead to this.
Sam has started a line of guitars called Old Redbird, and this is one of them. In a nutshell, he takes the husk of a vintage guitar with great essentials, and refinishes, restores, and upgrades them them, transforming them into phenomenal playing machines.
The body is originally an early 1970s Bobcat, with an early 60s Rocket neck. Non-adjustable steel truss rod, and this guitar plays beautifully. With this guitar, he decided on a custom wound pair of Malinoski Hersey bar style pickups, but they are much more than that. Overwound, and hyped up.
I was given free reign to design an amp to go with it, with the same idea. using good vintage pieces to add to a modern design. I chose an output from a vintage tube Akai reel to reel machine, and a vintage power transformer to match. As the circuit became revised, changes were made. The tube rectifier was removed, and a solid state unit hard wired in. Controls are high and low input, and Volume and Tone. A 12BH7 was added as a ballast to the preamp 12AX7. Single ended power tube, that is pushing 5 watts. Speaker choice was obvious. It got mated up to a 1953 Jensen P10T alnico 10" speaker. A fabric covering was chosen to tie the whole aesthetic together.
This is a culmination of a combined 35 plus years of experience. It will never be replicated exactly as this set is.
